    Seminar Details

Information technology has become an essential constituent of all successful global organisations. Businesses demand reliable, secure and efficient IT systems to facilitate their operations. But what happens when there is no IT infrastructure in place and the lives of millions of people rely on the rapid and efficient coordination of relief operations?

The IT Emergency Preparedness and Response division of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is leading the humanitarian community in IT and telecommunications developments. As nominated lead service provider for the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster, WFP has extensive experience in developing and implementing IT strategies in extremely challenging conditions. WFP is working to develop a state of the art IT solution for humanitarian workers struggling in the most adverse conditions - Called EPIC (Emergency Preparedness Integration Centre), the innovative tool will enable humanitarian workers to stay connected, bring in aid, increase security and help those in dire need brought on through conflict, disease or natural disasters.

Through ‘real-life’ end-user experiences, this keynote address brings a unique insight into how technology is being leveraged in the humanitarian community and applied in emergency response operations to ultimately save lives.
