Writer, editor, commentator, analyst and event consultant with 17 years covering technology developments and their implications for business and society. From 2003-2009 I combined freelance journalism with analysis and event consultancy/development for IT leadership forum CIO Connect. I have an in-depth understanding of the issues and challenges facing senior IT leaders in large organisaitons, and the skills to distil and communicate these with flair and precision for a variety of audiences. I also follow the high-tech start-up sector, and am a keen user/advocate of technologies such as social networking and online applications. Tracking this sector has put me in contact with a vibrant community of entrepreneurs employing exciting new business models, many of which I believe point the way forward for mainstream business. Prior to going freelance I was editor of "Business & Technology", a forward-thinking monthly of the mid-late 1990s which was among the first UK publications to champion enlightened business thinking such as the need for environmental and social responsibility, the value of flexible working and the benefits of open web technologies. Before that I held a variety of writing and editing positions on IT business titles "Computing" and "The VAR". Freelance since 2001, I have have written for a wide variety of national, consumer and trade titles, including "The Guardian", fashion weekly "Draper's", "Accountancy Age", "Computer Weekly" and "Stuff". A keen wordsmith and self-taught e-musician, I write and perform comic verse and songs in my spare time. I'm a strong believer in free expression and a founding member of the Open Rights Group (www.openrightsgroup.org), a grassroots body formed to defend UK digital civil liberties.
