Tim Cray, principal consultant at IT management consultancy Virtrium


Tim CrayTim has over 20 years' professional IT management experience with blue-chip companies, and has been a senior manager or director in every area of IT from service delivery through to IT strategy development and execution. Most recently he has completed assignments for Deutsche Bank, Skandia and Tesco. Before co-founding Virtrium, Tim spent three years at Sainsbury’s following the outsource to Accenture, where he led the service delivery and technology team (including the completion of a £220 million infrastructure renewal programme). He began his management career at Safeway UK, where he spent 10 years in a variety of key positions including director of service delivery, responsible for all IT infrastructure. After Safeway, he became a director of Nat West Bank, charged with managing the entire IT infrastructure of the bank's global financial markets business. He then moved to Perot Systems where he led bid development and sales support globally for Perot's financial services industry group.

Now independent, Tim offers consulting services across all IT management disciplines. His particular areas of expertise include sourcing and outsourcing, bid management and reviews, major change programmes, benchmarking, disaster recovery and developing IT strategies.

Tim holds several qualifications, including a first class honours degree in computing and statistics, and has completed the London Business School's highly regarded Advanced Development Programme. He is also a member of the advisory board for IT leaders' forum CIO Connect.
